Abraham's Cave, Mevlid-i Halil mosque, Urfa, Turkey
Cave where Abraham (prophet Ibrahim) is thought to have been born, when his mother Nuna hid here to avoid king Nimrod's killing of all sons, adjacent to the Mevlid-i Halil mosque complex, Ottoman, built 1523 AD, in Eyyubiye, Sanliurfa, or Urfa, the site of ancient Edessa, Turkey. The holy site originally housed a Roman temple, then a synagogue, then a Byzantine church, before becoming a mosque. Picture by Manuel Cohen
