Aggersborg Viking ring fortress, Aggersund, Denmark
Aggersborg, a Viking ring fortress built 10th century, near Aggersund, on the Limfjord in north Denmark. It consists of a circular rampart with moat, 4 radiating roads inside the fort and up to 48 longhouses housing a garrison of 5000 men. The current structure is a reconstruction based on excavations. The fort sits on an older Iron Age settlement and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
