Ale's Stones, Scania, Osterlen, Sweden
Ale's Stones, or Ales stenar, a megalithic monument consisting of 59 standing stones in the shape of a ship, erected in the Iron Age, 500 BC - 800 AD, aerial view, at Kaseberga, Scania, Osterlen, Sweden. The monument's purpose is unknown but is thought to be a sun calendar or moon observatory, aligning with the summer solstice and lunar standstill. It may also have been a grave monument or cult centre. Burial goods were discovered at the site by archaeologists in 1989. Picture by Manuel Cohen
