Nativity, with the Virgin and Joseph sleeping, baby Jesus in the manger and the ox and ass, sculptural detail from the old altarpiece, against the apse wall of the Abbey church, built 1139-47, at the Abbaye de Fontenay, or Fontenay Abbey, a Cistercian abbey founded by St Bernard of Clairvaux in 1119, in Romanesque style, at Marmagne, Cote d'Or, Burgundy, France.
