Annunciation, Altarpiece of the Constable, Royal
Annunciation, with the Archangel Gabriel telling Mary she will have the son of God, from the Life of the Virgin, on the Altarpiece of the Constable or Epiphany Altarpiece, 1464-65, by Jaume Huguet, c. 1412-92, tempera on panel, in Gothic style, commissioned by Don Pedro of Portugal, in the Royal Chapel of Santa Agatha in the Palacio Real Mayor in Barcelona, Spain. The central panel is the most important and depicts the Adoration of the Magi. The side and top panels depict the Life of the Virgin and Jesus Christ, and Saints are portrayed at the bottom.
