Anundshogen burial mound, Anundshog, Sweden
Anundshogen, the largest burial mound in Sweden, 9m high and 64m diameter, 500-1050 AD, at Anundshog, Vasteras, Vastmanland, Sweden. Cremated remains were placed on the earth, covered with a pile of stones, then earth and turf. The area was an important trade centre from the Iron Age, and the site contains 11 more burial mounds, graves, ship settings, runestones and settlements. Picture by Manuel Cohen
