Aswan Low Dam, Egypt
Aswan Low Dam, or Old Aswan Dam, designed by Sir William Willcocks and built 1899-1902 and expanded 1907, 1912, 1929 and 1933, on the first cataract of the river Nile, in Egypt. The buttress dam was built to conserve floodwaters to use for irrigation, and supports 2 hydroelectric power plants. Picture by Manuel Cohen
