Barn with barrels, pails and butter churns, at the reconstructed Hiding Manor, 980 AD, at Ribe Viking Centre, a reconstructed Viking village and living history site, at Ribe, Syddanmark, Jutland, Denmark. Hiding Manor was originally 2 hours walk from Ribe, and consisted of a longhouse in Trelleborg-Fyrkat style, a smithy, barns, workshops and pit-houses. The site was excavated 1986-94 and traces of buildings were found 400 BC - 1150 AD. Ribe is the oldest town in Denmark, founded c. 700 AD, was a Viking trade centre and had strong christian connections through archbishop Ansgar from 9th century. Picture by Manuel Cohen
