Roman Basilica, 1st century AD, Ephesus, Izmir, Turkey. The basilica is 160m long, and is located on the northern part of the state agora. It has a nave and 3 side aisles. The Ionic columns in the basilica are adorned with bull's heads. The basilica was used for stock exchange, commercial business and meetings of the law courts. It was destroyed by an earthquake in the 4th century AD. Ephesus was an ancient Greek city founded in the 10th century BC, and later a major Roman city, on the Ionian coast near present day Selcuk.
