Bayeux Tapestry, Musee de la Tapisserie de Bayeux, Normandy
The fleet of William duke of Normandy, lands at Pevensey, in the south of England, in September 1066, and the horses are taken ashore, detail from the Bayeux Tapestry, a 70m long embroidery, commissioned 1070s, depicting the Norman Conquest in 58 scenes with medieval latin tituli or captions, in the Bayeux Museum, or Musee de la Tapisserie de Bayeux, in Bayeux, Calvados, Normandy, France. The tapestry was made in England by embroidering woollen yarn on linen, commissioned by bishop Odo of Bayeux. Picture by Manuel Cohen
