Empire style bed in an alcove in the Chambre aux Abeilles, bedroom of Pierre Loti's wife Blanche Franc de la Ferriere, designed 1886 in Empire style, with gilded stucco bees on the ceiling, at the Maison de Pierre Loti, home of Pierre Loti, born Louis Marie-Julien Viaud, 1850-1923, French writer and naval officer, in Rochefort, Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. Loti was born in the house and decorated it with collections from his travels in Europe, Arabia and Asia. It is now a municipal museum, restored from 2012, and reopened 2025, and is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen
