Building J, Monte Alban, Oaxaca, Mexico

Conquest commemorating stones carved with scenes of Monte Alban conquests 100 BC -200 AD, and behind, Building J, an astronomical observatory built c. 100 BC, on the Main Plaza at Monte Alban, ancient Zapotec capital founded 6th century BC, Oaxaca, Mexico. The conquest stones are carved with a place glyph and an upside-down head of the conquered peoples and were used as information and propaganda for both locals and foreign armies.
