Bukhara
Low angle view of Kalyan Minaret, 1127, and Amir Alim-Khan Madrasah, 14th century, Bukhara, Uzbekistan, pictured on July 8, 2010 in the afternoon. The baked brick minaret is 48 metres high and its diametre is 9 metres at the bottom and 6 metres at the top. Commissioned by Arslan Khan and designed by Bako its purpose was to summon Muslims to prayer. Bukhara, a city on the Silk Route is about 2500 years old.
