Calendar, based on 12 lunar months, 3 seasons of 4 months each, with New Year coinciding with the annual Nile flood, bas-relief, in the Temple of Sobek and Haroeris, at Kom Ombo, Aswan Governate, Egypt. Kom Ombo is a double temple to both Sobek, crocodile god of fertility, and Haroeris, Horus the Elder, built 180-47 BC during the Ptolemaic dynasty, and altered in Roman times. Picture by Manuel Cohen
