Relief on a capital, in the nave of the medieval abbey church, on the island of Iona Abbey and Nunnery, at Iona, Inner Hebrides, Scotland. Iona abbey was founded by the Celtic monk St Columba in 563 AD. A stone abbey was begun c. 800 AD and the Benedictine monastery and Augustinian nunnery were built in the 13th century.
