Sculpture on a capital, at the door to the sacristy from the nave of the medieval abbey church, at Iona Abbey and Nunnery, on the island of Iona, Inner Hebrides, Scotland. Iona abbey was founded by the Celtic monk St Columba in 563 AD. A stone abbey was begun c. 800 AD and the Benedictine monastery and Augustinian nunnery were built in the 13th century.
