Carpet restoration workshop, Mobilier National, Paris
Carpet restorer Catherine Dace (left) of the Atelier de Rentraiture de Tapis, repairing a hole using the repiquage technique, on the carpet from the choir of the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Paris, at the Mobilier National, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, France. The technique involves using a straight needle to fill in the gap without using the ghiordes knots originally used. The carpet was woven 1824-33 and is used only on special occasions.
