Centaur statue, 1994, by Igor Mitoraj, on the Forum of Pompeii, the commercial, religious, political and social centre of the city, in Pompeii, at Pompei near Naples, Campania, Italy. Pompeii is a Roman town which was destroyed and buried under 4-6 m of volcanic ash in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
