Chamber of Phalluses, Karahan Tepe, Sanliurfa, Turkey

Cult Room, known as Chamber of Phalluses, with T-shaped pillars, stone phalluses and carved head, possibly a shaman, adjacent to the main assembly hall, at Karahan Tepe, a Pre-Pottery neolithic settlement founded c. 9750 BC, near Yagmurlu, Sanliurfa, Turkey. It is thought that water flowed through the arch in the building's wall, into the main square. The site was discovered in 1997 and contains over 250 stone pillars with carved reliefs, T-shaped pillars, houses, ceremonial structures and quarries. Picture by Manuel Cohen
