Detail of the head of a statue of Christ wearing the crown of thorns, in Saint Volusian Abbey, or the Abbatiale Saint-Volusien, in Foix, Ariege, Midi-Pyrenees, France. The original abbey church was built in the 12th century, but was later destroyed and rebuilt in the 17th century. The abbey houses the relics of St Volusian, 7th bishop of Tours, who died c. 495 AD, and its buildings now house the Prefecture of the Ariege. Picture by Manuel Cohen
