Gamla Uppsala Church, built 12th century on the site of an ancient pagan temple, partially rebuilt after a fire in the 18th century, with graveyard, at Gamla Uppsala, near Uppsala, Sweden. On the right is the detached wooden belfry, built 1164. The 12th century church was the largest church in the kingdom and Uppsala was the centre of christianity in Sweden at this time.
