Cloister capital, Sant Pere de Rodes monatery
Carved stone capital from the 12th century Romanesque cloister, depicting monks holding prayer books with staring eyes, at Sant Pere de Rodes, a Benedictine monastery on the Verdera mountain in the Sierra de Rodes, Puerto de la Selva, Girona, Catalonia, Spain. The monastery itself was founded in 945 by monks who escaped Barbarian invasions with relics of saints, and was eventually sacked in the 17th century and deserted in the 18th century.
