This judicial allegorical figure is assuring that the metalworker's spear and the weaver's bale of cloth are of equal value for the exchange. Lorenzetti was commissioned by the Council of Nine to produce allegorical frescoes covering 3 of the 4 walls of their council chamber, and he produced 6 scenes on the 3 fresco panels.
