Cour d'honneur and Chapelle de la Sorbonne, Sorbonne

Cour d'honneur or courtyard of honour, in Louis XIII style, and Chapelle de la Sorbonne behind, at the Sorbonne, the main building of the University of Paris in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, France. The building now houses several faculties created when the Sorbonne was divided up into 13 universities in 1970. The chapel, or La Chapelle Sainte Ursule de la Sorbonne, was built 1635-42 by architect Jacques Lemercier, under Cardinal Richelieu, who is also buried here. The statue of Victor Hugo still bears traces of red paint from the unrest of May 1968. The chapel is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen
