Crypte des Gros Piliers, Abbey, Mont-Saint-Michel
Crypte des Gros Piliers (Crypt of the massive pillars), built 1446-50 to support the new Gothic choir above, with columns 5m around and prism-shaped ribs in the vaulted ceiling, in the Benedictine abbey, founded 966, on Mont-Saint-Michel or St Michael's Mount, a fortified tidal island, Normandy, Northern France. Mont-Saint-Michel is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its abbey and many other buildings are historic monuments. Picture by Manuel Cohen
