Dante's Tomb, Ravenna, Italy
Tomb of the medieval poet Dante Alighieri, 1265-1321, with Latin epitaph by poet Bernardo Canaccio and bas-relief portrait of Dante by Pietro Lombardo, 1483, inside a temple-style monument built 1781 by Camillo Morigi, in Neoclassical style, next to the Basilica di San Francesco, in Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The bronze and silver wreath dates from 1921, 600 years after his death. Dante died in Ravenna and his funeral took place inside the basilica. Picture by Manuel Cohen
