Diorama, Ramparts, Villefranche-de-Conflen
Diorama of peasant life in medieval times, in the Tour du Portalet, a tower defending the Porte du Portalet in the ramparts of Villefranche-de-Conflent, a fortified town in Conflent, Pyrenees-Orientales, France. The walls were originally built 9th century by the counts of Conflent and further fortified by Vauban in the 17th century, with new 2 storey covered walkways and bastions. The town is protected from above by Fort Liberia, built 1681-83 by Sebastien Le Prestre de Vauban and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
