Door, Salle Gothique, Maison de Pierre Loti, Rochefort
Carving on the wooden door of the Salle Gothique, designed 1887, inspired by medieval castles, at the Maison de Pierre Loti, home of Pierre Loti, born Louis Marie-Julien Viaud, 1850-1923, French writer and naval officer, in Rochefort, Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. Loti was born in the house and decorated it with collections from his travels in Europe, Arabia and Asia. It is now a municipal museum, restored from 2012, and reopened 2025, and is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen
