Door, St Gevorg Chapel, Khor Virap monastery, Armenia
Carved wooden khachkar door with cross and rosette, to the St Gevorg Chapel, or St George's Chapel, built above the pit where St Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned, at Khor Virap, an apostolic monastery built 642 by Nerses III the Builder, at Pokr Vedi near Artashat on the Ararat Plain in Armenia. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned in a dungeon under the chapel, his release in 301 AD resulting in Armenia becoming a christian country. Picture by Manuel Cohen
