Dry dock, used for repairing slave ships 1750-1807, at the Royal Albert Dock, built 1841-46, designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick, as warehouses on the docks of Liverpool, Merseyside, England. Ship owners and merchants from Liverpool profited greatly from the slave trade, taking over 1.5 million Africans to America. There are 2 dry docks, known as graving docks, built 1756 and 1765-9, rebuilt in 1829. Picture by Manuel Cohen
