Wooden statue of Pontiff (detail), radiating chapel of the ambulatory in the 5-segment hemicycle choir, Eglise St Germain des Pres, Paris, France. Founded as an Abbey in 542 the building was destroyed several times by the Normans and reconsecrated in 1163 by Pope Alexander III.
