Ekklesiasterion, meeting place of the ekklesia or popular assembly of a city state, built c. 480-70 BC, holding 1700 people, at Paestum, an ancient Greek city founded c. 600 BC in Magna Grecia, in Salerno, Campania, Italy. Paestum was founded by the Greeks as Poiseidonia then seized by the Lucanians and Romans from 273 BC. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
