El Medol Quarry, Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain
Southern zone, with Medol monolith, 20m high, reaching to original ground level, access ramp and small Roman shelter used as a checkpoint, in the El Medol Quarry or El Clot del Medol, a Roman quarry used from 1st century AD to supply stone for building to Tarraco, near Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. The quarry houses an abundance of flora and fauna, including bats, goshawks and geckos. The site is managed by the MNAT (Museu Nacional Arqueologic de Tarragona), and the ruins of the fortified Roman colony of Tarraco are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
