Erebuni Fortress, Yerevan, Armenia
Southeast fortification wall, originally 13-15m high and built from plastered mud bricks on stone foundations, excavated 1968, at Erebuni Fortress, a fortified city of the Urartian kingdom, founded 782 BC by king Argishti, in Yerevan, Armenia. The fortress was a military base and defensive outpost but also a royal capital city, housing a palace and temples swell as residential and storage buildings. Picture by Manuel Cohen
