Erebuni Museum, Yerevan, Armenia
Erebuni Historical Archaeological Reserve Museum, founded 1968, at the Erebuni Fortress, a fortified city of the Urartian kingdom, founded 782 BC by king Argishti, in Yerevan, Armenia. The fortress was a military base and defensive outpost but also a royal capital city, housing a palace and temples swell as residential and storage buildings. In the centre is the 5-headed dragon stone or vishapakar, c. 2000-1500 BC, a megalithic stela linked to a water cult, from the Geghame mountains. Picture by Manuel Cohen
