Flama del Canigo festival, Prades, Pyrenees-Orientales
Traditional Catalan music on drums and grailles (a traditional oboe) beside the bonfire at the Place de la Republique on 24th June, or La Nuit de Saint-Jean, lit from the Flamme de Sant Joan or Flama del Canigo, brought from the Canigo summit to the village of Prades, Conflent, Pyrenees-Orientales, Occitanie, France. The flame burns all year round in the Castillet in Perpignan and is taken to Canigo each year to light a fire, which is then taken in flaming torches to light bonfires in towns across North Catalonia, celebrating the arrival of summer.
