Fort Liberia, Villefranche-de-Conflent, Pyrenees-Orientales
Fort Liberia, built 1681-83 by Sebastien Le Pressure de Vauban under king Louis XIV, on Belloch hill above Villefranche-de-Conflent, Conflent, Pyrenees-Orientales, France. The fort was built to protect the new Roussillon territory from the Spanish and held a garrison of 100. It is listed as a historic monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
