Fortress model, Trelleborg Museum of the Viking Age, Zealand
Model of the Viking ring fortress or Trelleborg, built c. 980 under king Harald Bluetooth, in the Trelleborg Museum of the Viking Age, near Slagelse on the island of Zealand, Denmark. The castle originally consisted of a central circular site surrounded by wooden ramparts with roads crossing in the centre leading to 4 gates, and a bailey outside the walls with its own rampart, and boat shaped longhouses.
