View of the North end of the Forum of Pompeii, the political, commercial and social centre of the town, with the columns of the Temple of Jupiter, built 2nd century BC, and a Memorial Arch, Pompeii, Italy. Pompeii is a Roman town which was destroyed and buried under 4-6 m of volcanic ash in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
