Fountain of Pollio, Ephesus, Izmir, Turkey
Fountain of Pollio, South of the State Agora, built 97 AD by the rich Ephesian Cs Pollio and his family, Ephesus, Izmir, Turkey. The fountain provided a free water source for the people of Ephesus and has a huge arch which would have been surrounded by statues. Ephesus was an ancient Greek city founded in the 10th century BC, and later a major Roman city, on the Ionian coast near present day Selcuk. Picture by Manuel Cohen
