Fretwork, Palace of the Columns, Mitla, Oaxaca
Carved stone fretwork on the walls of an interior room at the Palace of the Columns, restored, in the Columns Group, built 1300-1400 AD, late Zapotec style, at Mitla, a Zapotec and Mixtec city and sacred burial site at San Pablo Villa de Mitla in the Tlacolula Valley in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Columns Group features 3 large interconnected courtyards with huge halls decorated with carved fretwork which was originally covered with red stucco. Picture by Manuel Cohen
