Fyrkat ring fortress, Hobro, Jutland, Denmark
Fyrkat ring fortress, built 980 under king Harald Bluetooth, part of the Viking Center Fyrkat, near Hobro, Jutland, Denmark. The site consists of a circular earthen rampart and stones marking the site of the 16 original longhouses. Originally the rampart would have been lined with timber and surrounded by a moat, and plank roads leading to 4 gates divided it into 4 sections. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
