Galata or Karakoy, a district on the Golden Horn, Istanbul, Turkey. Galata was a medieval citadel and a colony of the Republic of Genoa 1273-1453. In the centre is the summit of the Galata Tower, built 1348 on the medieval Genoese citadel walls. Picture by Manuel Cohen
