Gardens, Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte, Maincy, Seine-et-Marne
Urns of flowers, lawns and topiary in the formal gardens of the Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte, designed by Louis Le Vau, 1612-70, and built 1658-61 for marquis Nicolas Fouquet, in Maincy, Seine-et-Marne, France. In the centre is a statue of cherubs holding a basket of flowers, by Philippe de Buyster, 1595-1688. The chateau is built in Baroque style, with decoration by Charles Le Brun, 1619-90, and grounds designed by landscape architect Andre le Notre, 1613-1700.
