Garni Temple, Garni, Kotayk, Armenia

Garni Temple, built 1st - 2nd century AD by king Tiridates I, either as a pagan temple to the sun god Mithra, or as a tomb, Hellenistic, at Garni, Kotayk, Armenia. The Ionic colonnaded temple was rebuilt from rubble 1969-75, as the original was destroyed in an earthquake in 1679. It forms part of the Garni Historical and Cultural Museum Reserve.
