Gateway of Amenhotep II, 7th pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, New Kingdom, c. 1427-07 BC, at Abu, on Elephantine island in the river Nile, at Aswan, Egypt. The island was important in the ivory trade from c. 3, 000 BC during the 1st dynasty, and was a defensive site above the First Cataract of the Nile at the border between Egypt and Nubia.
