Ghostly head with expression of despair in carved stucco from a frame of a fresco by Rosso Fiorentino, 1535-37, in the Galerie Francois I, begun 1528, the first great gallery in France and the origination of the Renaissance style in France, Chateau de Fontainebleau, France. The Palace of Fontainebleau is one of the largest French royal palaces and was begun in the early 16th century for Francois I. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.
