Gokstad burial mound, Norway
Gokstad burial mound, or King's mound, at Gokstad farm, Sadefjord, Vestfold, Norway. In 1880 farmers discovered a Viking ship, 3 smaller boats, many grave objects, animal skeletons and the remains of a man. Excavations revealed the grave, 895-903, of a Viking chieftain inside the Gokstad Ship, a clinker built oak Viking ship, which is exhibited at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo.
