Gordes, Provence, France
Hilltop village of Gordes at dawn, which was bombed by the Germans on 22nd August 1944, in Apt, Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France. The village is situated in Les Monts de Vaucluse in the Luberon valley. It was a centre of resistance during WWII with many maquisards or resistance fighters based here. Picture by Manuel Cohen
