Carved graffiti in a rock face, including a situla (bucket vessel), altar symbol and palm frond (left-right), at Gebel el-Silsila, an area of sandstone quarries used since the Middle Kingdom, 2034-1650 BC, beside the river Nile in Aswan Governorate, Egypt. The site contains over 100 quarries, the Speos of Horemheb temple built 1323-1295 BC, 32 rock-cut chapels c. 1479-1425 BC and other stelae and monuments. Picture by Manuel Cohen
